Burn Permits can be obtained at the Northfield Township Offices, 75 Barker Road, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Burn permits are valid for four days.
Northfield Township has adopted The Internatioanl Fire Code in its entirety. The International Fire Code requires burn permits to be obtained to any burning of the following:
Open Burning
This includes the disposal of yard waste. Limbs and leaves are included.
Providing heat for outworkers
Bonfires
Open burning is prohibited for any of the following reasons:
The burning is offensive or objectionable due to smoke odor emissions when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous.
Location of the open burning is less than 50 feet from any structure, and provisions have not been made to prevent the fire from spreading within 50 feet of any structure.
Fire in approved containers are less than 15 feet from any structure.
The open burning is for the disposal of construction materials.
The open burning does not have a constant attendant and a garden hose or other approved fire extinguishing equipment available for use.
If the bonfire is greater than 5 feet by 5 feet in dimension, and burns longer than 3 hours.
The bonfire was ignited by anything other then a small quantity of paper.
Someone other than the propery owner requested the permit for the bonfire.
Recreational Fires
Recreational fires do not need a burning permit. A recreational fire is defined as an outdoor fire utilized to cook food for human consumption.
