D.A.R.E. The Northfield Township Police Department has an
active D.A.R.E. Program. D.A.R.E. is an acronym for Drug Abuse
Resistance Education. The program is a cooperative effort between the
police department and the schools. The focus of D.A.R.E. includes
alcohol and drug abuse information, decision-making skills, peer
pressure resistance, positive alternatives to drug use, conflict
management, violence prevention and valuable life skills.
D.A.R.E. Officer Frank Niehaus teaches the "core"
curriculum to all the 5th grade classes and the junior high program
to the 8th graders. In addition, D.A.R.E. visitations are made to the
elementary school classrooms upon request. D.A.R.E. is well received
in the Whitmore Lake Community Schools.
D.A.R.E. students receive small achievement awards as incentives for
positive effort during the course. Upon successful completion of the
program, students participate in a graduation ceremony. |
