Although Northfield Township currently has no formal funding mechanism for land preservation, the LPC helps match residents with the Greenbelt Program of Ann Arbor and the Washtenaw County Natural Areas Preservation Program to protect qualifying properties within Northfield Township. Events:

WHITMORE LAKE, MI–A spring wildflower hike is being offered free to the public on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Whitmore Lake Preserve, 1551 7 Mile Rd., Whitmore Lake, MI, (at 7 Mile and Nollar Rd).  Three times are available:

10:00 - 11:30 am – Family-friendly hike limited to 10 people

12:00 - 1:30 pm – Family-friendly hike, limited to 15 people

2:00 - 4:00 pm – Longer hike more appropriate for adults, limited to 10 people

Registration is available online on a first come-first served basis. The hike will take place rain or shine, except in case of lightning or dangerous weather. Participants are asked to arrive 10 minutes in advance so that hikes may begin on time.

The 10:00 am and 2:00 pm hikes will be led by Washtenaw County Parks naturalist Shawn Severance. The noon hike will be led by members of the Northfield Township Land Preservation Committee. Participants will discover a variety of spring wildflowers throughout this beautiful 250-acre natural area in Northfield Township.

  • Covid 19 rules for masks and distancing apply to all hikes.
  • There are no restrooms on site.
  • Trails are natural and unimproved so dress appropriately.
  • Sorry, no dogs allowed.
  • Bring your own water or snacks.
