Vacancies on Township Boards & Commissions - Boards & Committees Application

Board of Trustees:  The Board of Trustees currently has a vacancy due to the resignation of Trustee Joshua Nelson.  The Board is now accepting letters of interest along with a completed Boards & Commission Application (link above) for this open seat. To serve as Township Trustee, individuals must be an elector of Northfield Township, defined as someone 18 years of age, who is a U.S. citizen and has lived at least 30 days in the township for which they will serve. Letters of Interest and completed applications can be sent to the Township Office via email or delivered to the township office (8350 Main St., Whitmore Lake).  Letters and applications must be received in our office by 4:30pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 (revised deadline)The board will vote to appoint a new trustee at their January 24, 2023 Board Meeting. Applicants will be asked to attend the Jan. 24 meeting and give a short 5 minute or less introduction with some possible follow-up questions from the board.   Board of Trustees meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00PM.  Trustees receive a $2500 annual stipend.

Downtown Development Authority (DDA): The Downtown Development Authority is looking for business owners in downtown Whitmore Lake or US 23 and North Territorial area to join the DDA.  The mission of the DDA is to undertake public improvements and activities that have the greatest impact in strengthening the business district and attracting new private investments. The DDA typically meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month.  DDA members serve 4 year terms and are appointed by the Supervisor with approval of the Board of Trustees.

Board of Review Alternate:  The Board of Review reviews the assessment roll received from the Assessor for complete, accurate, uniform, and valid data. The Board of Review meets in March, July, and December each year.  Board of Review Members receive a stipend of $100 per meeting.

Planning Commission:  2 terms ending 12/31/22. 
The Planning Commission advises Township officials on matters of planning and development of the community, approves plans, and makes recommendations for land-use and the environment. The Planning Commission meets at 7:00pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.  Planning Commission members serve 3-year terms and are appointed by the Supervisor with the approval of the Board of Trustees.  Planning Commission members receive a stipend of $100 per meeting.

Parks & Recreation Board:  The Parks & Recreation Board currently has one term vacancy.  
The Parks & Recreation Board is a dedicated group of residents and business owners working to establish a vision for future parks and recreation opportunities in Northfield Township, and developing projects that provide a tangible benefit to our community.  Members are appointed by the Board of Trustees by recommendation from the Parks & Recreation Board, and each member serves a three year term.  The Parks & Recreation Board meets on the third Thursday of each month.

Land Preservation Committee: The Land Preservation Committee currently has one term vacancy, and two terms ending 12/31/22.
The Land Preservation Committee is a committee of residents put together by the Board of Trustees to look at ways to preserve agricultural and natural lands within the township. The LPC meets on the 1st Mon. of each month.
